  • Overseeding

For many reasons it might be necessary to plant grass seed.  In our overseeding process we will disperse seed in the areas that need seed with the intent to thicken the lawn.  It is very important that the following instructions be followed after seed is applied:

Watering is the most critical part of the seeding process. It is the leading cause of less than satisfactory results.

PLEASE KEEP THE SEEDED AREAS MOIST BY WATERING
TWICE A DAY FOR SIX (6) WEEKS!

    1. Please be sure to water the lawn lightly, twice a day, for at least 6 weeks, so that maximum germination and growth of the seed can occur.  The longer you continue to water, the better the ultimate result.  The short term inconvenience of the watering will give you the long term satisfaction for a beautiful lawn.

One watering in late morning and one in the later afternoon will suffice.  Do not apply too much water as to cause puddling or movement of the seed.  Just apply enough water to keep the upper 1” (one inch) of soil moist.  Start with approximately 15 minutes of watering and adjust the time needed according to the conditions of your lawn.  A pulsating sprinkler is best.
    1. After watering the newly seeded areas twice, resume your normal mowing height and schedule.  Mow frequently enough so that clippings do not smother the sprouting grass.  Keep the mower blade sharp, so that seedlings are not pulled up.
    1. Lightly rake leaves from the lawn to prevent smothering the new seedlings.  Do not allow leaves to remain on the lawn over the winter.
